Today I’ve run through lungs and internal organs of a frog, at the same time being a surgeon for once in Biology. Although frogs are life forms that sound typical in our daily lives, I can seriously tell you that it is certainly not easy to find!!!! Providentially I managed to buy 3 frogs for 30 cents each from my neighbour, it appear exactly at the time when I called for help. Great!!! I have “stuffs” for frog operation tomorrow. *Smiles*
Ok, enough all the babbling and let me share the moments during the experiment. First things first materials like gloves, wool, chloroform and apparatus include dissection set, tray, pins etcetera were prepared. Not forgetting collecting my group members, that’s when I realized that Jemuel was ABSENT!!!!! *sigh*. Since I was the only person who brought frogs on that particular day, I decided to let my generosity and kindness spread through me. I shared my 2 other frogs to other “pity” groups.
The frog was first placed into a beaker contained chloroform, and allow me to tell you that 4 hands were needed. Like people always said, there is no 100% perfection in every single thing you do. Similarly it all happened on that day, one of the frog sort of escaped through the window *lightning striking in my brain*. Then, Nicole with her ear-splitting and loud noise started to vibrate in our biology lab. Shrieking when her frog was jumping in the beaker, *thunder bolts in my brain*. All I can say was several human beings are just born not to be in the tune of science.
After a few minutes, I remove the unconscious frog and pinned it on the dissecting tray *Ouch!!*. Then I made the first incision on the skin of the frog along the centre of the frog to bisect it. Forceps and scissors were needed next to continue our procedure. Then Felicia helped to pick up the flaps of skin with the forceps while I separate the skin from the muscles using scalpel. Using scissors, I then continue the incision up the middle to a point just below the front legs and I turned the blades sideways to cut through the chest bones. Later, I separated the muscle flaps from the organ and used a scalpel to divide the muscle layer from the organ tissue. Here, I can observe that the frog’s heart is still beating (He doesn’t want to die even though we’ve already played through his internals). On the other hand, the second frog seems to die just after Mei Choo and Nicole started their incision on the frog’s skin. I can see blood flowing and bursting out from the organs!!!! *exaggerates*. So we decided to use the dead one for “further operations” in other words we played with it.
At the end of the day, our first frog managed to stay alive for approximately 4 hours!!!!! Of course it ended up in the garbage bin after it died, I don’t consider us as cruel and heartless beings because we wrapped it’s corpse in luminous paper before “burial” (it sounds better using this term).
